Camping Trip
§ 6 people dropped out because it is expected to rain in Bodega Bay this weekend. We could have a camping trip sometime in the second week of July. We cannot have it in between the finals and prelims. Some people suggested having a rafting trip in summer.
§ On the other hand, some people still want to go camping despite the weather forecast. Finally, we decided to make this a mini camping trip and organize another camping trip later in summer.

Trampoline
- Crystal Coolbaugh is organizing this event.
- Rancho Cordova: Don’t have to rent shoes. 11AM-10PM: $9 first hour; $6 second hour; $15 for 2 hours. We could reserve our own space. 25+ people to get a discount.
- The other place (Rockland) is not open on Mondays. The plan is to have it on May 11th from 7-9PM.
- BESA will set aside $5-10 per person, and a total of $200 for the event.
Prelim Student Lunch
- We’re considering having it sometime between May 11th – 15th. What works better for 1st year students who are taking the prelims?
- We might order pizza for lunch.
- Erica and Matt will organize it.
- Try to have a cap on the number of students attending.
Paintball
- Jon Lam is organizing this event and he is looking at paintballtickets.com
- The cost is $5 for the whole day, including gear and everything else other than CO2 and paintballs.
- We’re planning to buy 15 tickets ahead of time, and the first 15 people to RSVP will have their tickets paid for.
- Considering having it on May 23rd/May 30th
Spring BBQ
- Move the spring BBQ to sometime after finals and before prelims instead of having paintball and the BBQ on the same day. Space out the events.
- ChemE people are going to join us for this BBQ. There are 70 ChemE grad students and 35 Material Science grad students.
- Kavya Katipally is taking care of this event. She will also apply for the Dean Witter Fund.
- Tentative date: 2nd week of June. Last day of exams is June 11th.
Community Service
- Ice cream making was a success.
- Planning a high school visit on May 29th. The plan is to meet up a week or two in advance and practice.
- Finalize demos on May 15th.
- Jen Phipps will send out an e-mail to the people on her mailing list.
BESA Elections
- Diana is in charge of the elections.
- As usual, people will be asked to nominate themselves/other people.
- We might have a special outreach chair position.
- Deadline for nominations: 1st week of June.
- Elections will be held during the spring BBQ and also by e-mail.
UC Wide Bioengineering Symposium
- Will be held in Davis next year.
- Erica wants to ask BME students who they’d like to invite as speakers.
- We discussed renting a university bus for Friday.
Next Meeting
May 27th Wednesday at noon.
